We are pleased to announce that the Independent Studies Committee (ISC) will be holding its twelfth annual International Studies Symposium at Glendon College, Toronto on February 10th, 2007.
The purpose of this year's symposium entitled Turkey: An International Crossroads, is to examine and strengthen the relations between Turkey and Canada while promoting a broader understanding of the Turkish nation within an international framework. The objective is to generate a deeper understanding and appreciation of Turkey as a country, as a people, and as a culture.
Panels include Turkey’s strategic importance to NATO and the Middle East, interpretations of secularism, civil society, Turkish-European Union relations, minorities in Turkey and international trade. Speakers include the Hon. Aydemir Erman, Turkish ambassador to Turkey; the Hon. Peter Hancock, former Canadian ambassador to Turkey; Prof. Dr. Kemal Kirisci, Bogazici University, Turkey; and Prof Dr. Fuat Keyman, Koc University, Turkey.
The symposium runs from 8:30am to 5 pm, followed by a Wine & Cheese Reception, 5:15 to 8 pm, and the Principal's Dinner at 8pm.
