Changing contents of marriage contracts among young married Kurdish women in Nashville indicate powerful shifts in gender politics in the home, established at the very outset of new marriages among the Kurdish immigrant community, although publicly masked by the hijab and external displays of husband-deference. Within the home, the battlefield of housework is the front line of engagement, mirroring shifts within non-immigrant American households. I have the research and would like to present at the Berks, with the extended deadline making the opportunity still possible. Surely someone is doing an IMMIGRATION ISSUES panel—but I have not yet found it. I would prefer not to submit as a single paper. Please contact me if I might join your group.
