I am thrilled to annouce that Presidents Day, February 19 will be an extrodinary date for the Lehigh Valley Heritage Museum. After months of anticipation, we are opening the largest, most powerful exhibition devoted to Abraham Lincoln to take place in the Mid-Atlantic United States.
This is your opportunity to view historical artifacts of the Lincoln era rarely seen outside of Illinois. Titled "Abraham Lincoln and the Promise of America", the exhibit will feature over 1,000 items, including Tad Lincoln's original rocker, authentic 1860 presidential campaign memorabilia, and an item of furniture from Abraham Lincoln's Illinois home. The opening exhibit will include a clock from Ford's Theatre the night of Lincoln's assassination on loan from the National Park Service. The ceremony is scheduled for 12:00 noon and will include an impressive host of Pennsylvania dignitaries and noted Lincoln scholars.
The opening ceremony has attracted historians from many locations including Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Virginia and Washington, D.C. Our opening day will include door prizes, posters and an opportunity for the public to meet noted scholars. We will also be holding a "members only" reception with refreshments. Nationally acclaimed Lincoln artist Wendy Allen of Connecticut will make a personal appearance and display 20 of her most prominent Lincoln portraits. Allen with even conduct a public workshop revealing her techniques for painting the Lincoln visage.
Plan to join us on Presidents Day, February 19, as we unveil one of the most respected and powerful Lincoln exhibits in the United States.
I look forward to greeting everyone on this memorable occasion.
Sincerely,
Joseph Garrera
Executive Director
