The research group Cinéma et oralité (Film and Orality), at the Department of History of Art and film studies of the Université de Montréal, will host an international conference titled Oral Practices of Film, from October 25 to 27, 2007, in Montréal.
This conference will explore the prospects that arise from the influence of oral culture and tradition on cinematographic practices, from the standpoint of all disciplines, scholarly and artistic. We call pratiques bonimentées –lecturing, or oral, practices-, all verbally commented film screenings. We are also interested in films that feature a significant oral content, where speech and language play a major part.
Your paper proposal must include: Your name and surname, your professional or institutional affiliation (department and university); a 250-word summary of your paper ; Your contact information (mailing and email addresses, and telephone number); Screen and stage artists are welcome to participate with a paper and/or a performance.
Proposals for a performance should include a written outline, or a recorded excerpt, of the act.
