As one of its contributions to GROOTHERTOGDOM BRABANT at Van Abbemuseum organised by Phillip van den Bossche, MOCA MAAS – Museum of Contemporary Art, Maastricht – is hosting a ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION on the topic of MUSEUM SPACES to be held on SUNDAY 21 JANUARY AT 11:00 AM in the auditorium of Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven. Entitled PHENOMENOLOGIES OF ECO-EPISTEMOLOGICS the event will focus on the variety and frequently contradictory spaces with which the contemporary art museum must contend. From the museum as communal space of interaction to the museum as regional and/or inter/national archive, the contemporary art institution faces, and contributes to, a complex set of demands hinging upon such contested terms as ‘openness,’ ‘democracy,’ and ‘representation.’ Speakers include Antony Hudek, Suchan Kinoshita, Michael Stevenson, Susanne Titz, Paula van den Bosch, Phillip van den Bossche, and Etienne Wynants. Intended as a collective effort to identify and reflect upon the position of the museum in the public sphere, the roundtable discussion will rely heavily on audience input.
