Greetings,
I'm writing as part of the International Editorial team of Washington Square Review, a nationally distributed literary journal published under the auspices of the creative writing program at New York University. It is a bi-annual publication that has featured the works of noted authors such as Mahmoud Darwish, Rafael Campo, Mark Doty, Ana Menendez, Sharon Olds, Breyten Breytenbach, and Billy Collins, to name just a few.
We at Washington Square believe that African and other international voices can provide a fresh and powerful perspective to our readers. We are also actively working to give international writers greater access to an American audience. It would be our honor to consider any work that you might choose to submit for possible publication in Washington Square's Spring 2007 issue. While a solicitation is not a guarantee of publication, it means that your work will be given the utmost consideration.
We are requesting that materials, whether short fiction (approx. 5000 words) or poetry (4-5 poems), be submitted by February 12, 2007, either through e-mail or by post (e-mail is preferable). Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions.
Thank you for your consideration. I hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
Maaza Mengiste
International Editor
Washington Square Review
