Multilingual Sephardic Writing
For its panel at the MLA in 2007 the Sephardic Studies Discussion Group is looking for papers that explore multilingual writing in Sephardic communities. Corpus to be analyzed may include texts by Sephardic authors and texts in Sephardic languages. They may be religious or secular, earlier or contemporary, prose or poetry, and come from any part of the large Sephardic diaspora. We are particularly interested in issues of language choice and cultural affiliation, construction of identity through language, use of intertexts, issues of nationalism and diaspora.
We invite proposals of 250-300 words for a 20-minute paper. Abstracts and a 2-page CV should be sent to Monique Balbuena at balbuena (at) uoregon.edu. The deadline for submissions is Thursday, March 1, 2007.
