Papers sought for a panel entitled “Imperial Outgrowths: Landscape and the British Colonial Project” at the North American Conference on British Studies in San Francisco, November 9-11, 2007. This panel will examine the role of landscape in the creation and maintenance of imperial identities, both in the colony and in the metropole. Papers for this panel should interrogate British representations of, and interventions in, the colonial landscape between the eighteenth and the nineteenth centuries, and ideally raise questions about national identity, belonging, and difference.
