I am exploring the possibilities of holding a conference on "Widowhood in Indian History" trancending regions and periods. I am at present inviting porosals for a possible papers for a conference likely to be held at New Delhi, India around September/October, 2007. I shall approach funding agencies only after I get some concrete proposals. I must how ever make it amply clear that the conference may have a registration fee and we may not be able to offer anything more than accommodation and working lunches on the days of the conference.
The proposed confernce is a serious attempt to study widowhood in Indian history. Even though some writing has been done, the emphasis is on modern period and on anthropological approach to the problem. I would like to have more papers from pure historical perspective and may be also on literature, if they can contexualise their essays in historical background.
Please send a 250 words proposal, short biblio, short CV and affiliation to me latest by 31st March either by email or post.
