On Saturday, January 27 & Sunday, January 28, 2007, Springfield Technical Community College and the Springfield Armory National Historic Site will host a two-day symposium on the 220th anniversary of Shays’s Rebellion.
Robert A. Gross, distinguished historian from the University of Connecticut, will give the keynote address. Theodore Crackel, editor–in-chief of The Papers of George Washington, will speak on early War Department Papers. A reception will be held on Saturday, Jan. 28.

Located on STCC’s campus, the Armory is central to Shays’s Rebellion. In January 1787, Daniel Shays led 2000 rebels to the Armory, attempting to capture its military stores in protest of heavy taxes following the Revolutionary War.
