The 39th Algonquian Conference will be held at York University (Toronto, Ontario) the 18-22 of October 2007. This conference is an international meeting for researchers working in the area of Algonquian studies. This year the conference will have the theme of “Meeting Grounds and Gathering Places” relating to Algonquian communities both contemporary and historic.

We invite papers on all topics that concern Algonquian studies, including anthropology, archaeology, art, biography, cultural education, ethnography, botanical ethnography, historical ethnography, musical ethnography, folklore, geography, history, linguistics, literature, music, language education, politics, cultural psychology, religion and sociology. Papers may be given in either French or English. This year presenters will have a choice of two formats: panels or poster sessions. Orally delivered papers must not be longer than 20 minutes, with 10 minutes allowed for discussion.

Due Date for Submissions: September 1, 2007

If you are interested in making a presentation, please send a title and abstract (maximum 1 page, 12 point font, 1 inch margin) to the following email address: carolynp@yorku.ca. The subject line of your email must read Algonquian Conference and the text of your email message must include your name, postal address, institution, telephone numbers and fax number and the electronic address of each speaker or poster participant. Indicate your preferred format: oral, poster or no preference, and your AV requirements. Presenters will begin Thursday, October 18 and will finish Saturday afternoon, October 20. A Sunday field trip option will be the “Great Indian Bus Tour of Toronto.” Registration fees (payable by cheque to the 39th Algonquian Conference) are $50 Can ($45 US), received prior to the 15th of September, and late registration fees after that date are $60 CAN ($55 US). The student rate is $30 CAN ($25 US) before September 15, and $40 CAN ($35 US) after. (We do not accept credit card payments).

Le 39e congrès des Algonquinistes se tiendra à l’université York (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) du 18 au 22 octobre 2007. Ce congrès est un lieu de rencontre international pour les chercheur(e)s oeuvrant dans le domaine des études algonquinistes. Cette année, la conférence aura comme thème les “lieux de réunion” des communautés algonquiennes contemporaines et historiques.

Nous invitons des communications sur tout sujet qui concerne les études algonquiennes, y compris l'anthropologie, l'archéologie, l'art, la biographie, l'éducation culturelle, l'ethnographie, l’ethnographie botanique, l’ethnographie historique, l’ethnographie musicale, le folklore, la géographie, l'histoire, la linguistique, la littérature, la musique, la pédagogie de la langue, la politique, la psychologie culturelle, la religion, et la sociologie. Les communications pourront être données en français ou en anglais. Cette année, les participant(e)s auront le choix de deux formats: les communications pourront être présentées oralement ou sous forme d’affiche. Les communications orales ne doivent pas dépasser 20 minutes et il y aura 10 minutes de discussion.
