The University of Missouri Press is supporting the publication of a new book, “Midwest Boots on the Ground: Letters Home from Iraq, Afghanistan and the War on Terrorism.” This volume will contain letters, emails, blog excerpts, and other forms of communication from military personnel who have deployed from the states of Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas and Oklahoma since September 11, 2001 as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan), Operation Noble Eagle (defending US airports), or other areas in support of the Global War on Terrorism. Eligible contributors include active duty, National Guard and Reservists of all branches of service.
Interested military personnel should send an email to booksubmissions@umsystem.edu.
Please include in an email or cover letter your full legal name, rank and grade, permanent mailing address, dates of service, location of service, the type of communications proposed for the collection (emails, letters, blog excerpts), and the submissions, of no more than fifty pages.
There are no restrictions on the form of the written material – personal letters, emails, poetry, war diaries, or journals. Do not send photographs or classified material.

Deadline for all submissions is February 15, 2007. Submissions cannot be returned.
The editor of this book is Dr. Wayne H. Bowen, a professor of history, author and Army Reservist who served in Iraq in 2004 as a Civil Affairs officer.
