The Making Publics Project at McGill University announces a Summer Seminar Series for advanced PhD candidates, recent PhDs, and junior faculty studying the early modern period. The first seminar in the series will be led by Lesley Cormack (History of Science, University of Alberta) and Michael Bristol (English, McGill University) from July 18-August 13, 2007. This seminar will focus on selected writing from the tumultuous decades of the English interregnum, roughly 1640-1660, with particular attention to the fields of science and religion. We hope to recruit up to 12 scholars in the early stages of their careers working on any topic related to the seminar's concerns across the span of the seventeenth century. Scholars need not be focused on English history in particular and those investigating continental events relevant to the seminar topic and time period are also welcome to apply.
