The Fifth Annual Fort Garry Lectures in History Graduate Student Conference will be held 26-28 April 2007 at the University of Manitoba. We encourage papers from a diverse range of regional, methodological, and thematic topics. Keynote speakers are Ward Churchill, Jorge Nállim and Emma Alexander-Mudaliar.
The conference aims to promote interdisciplinary dialogue and is open to graduate students from any relevant discipline. Topics can include, but are by no means limited to the fields of:
History and Theory, Nation/Nationalism, Colonialism/ imperialism/postcolonialism, Health/Medicine, Family/childhood, Power/resistance, Gender/sexuality, Race/ethnicity, Migration/diaspora, Conflict/violence/crime. Religion, Identity/citizenship
Capitalism/labour/class, Science/technology,
Papers and panels from an interdisciplinary perspective or utilizing diverse methodological frameworks are especially encouraged. Presenters will be organised in panels of 2-3 papers, with each presenter allocated a maximum of 20 minutes to present.
Speakers at this year’s conference include:
Jorge Nállim, University of Manitoba, who specializes in Latin American political, social, and intellectual history
Emma Alexander-Mudaliar, University of Winnipeg, who specializes in colonialism in South Asia
Ward Churchill, University of Colorado at Boulder, who specializes in ethnic studies, particularly Native American history
Applicants are invited to submit proposals of 250 words along with a short (two page maximum) CV. The submission deadline is 1 February 2007.
