The Chesapeake American Studies Association (CHASA) and Middle Atlantic American Studies Association (MAASA) announce their joint conference, to be held at University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) on March 30-31, 2007. The theme, “Believing in America: Insights & Outlooks,” is in keeping with our venue’s dual identity: Maryland was established as a place of refuge, yet Baltimore has always been a port(al) to the world. While strongly welcoming proposals addressing this theme, we invite submissions on any aspect of American Studies. Graduate students making presentations can have their papers considered for awards if they submit papers by March 13. The conference will also have undergraduate sessions; faculty are encouraged to assist promising undergraduates in proposing papers. Please mail CV and one-page proposal to John Haddad, American Studies, Penn State Harrisburg, 777 West Harrisburg Pike, Middletown, PA 17057. To submit electronically, send materials to chasa_maasa@yahoo.com. Deadline: January 15, 2007.
