The American Studies Symposium in Central Asia invites proposals for its fourth annual symposium 20-21 April 2007 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
The symposium is designed for public school teachers, faculty and students from Central Asian universities, and international scholars and researchers. Proposed topics include the role of American Studies in higher education; effective teaching approaches; foreign policy, censorship and education; developing new courses and syllabi; research and teaching American literature and art; teaching controversial issues and images; what is the value of American Studies after graduation?; defining American Studies; and American Studies as a globalized discourse
Organizers also welcome papers, panels, workshops or roundtables in English or Russian on other topics. For each proposal, submit name, address, telephone number, email address, institutional affiliation (if any) and title, 250-word abstract, and 50-word biographical sketch.
The deadline for submissions is 15 February 2007. Notification of acceptance will be made by 15 March 2007. Please email proposal materials as a Word attachment to Seamus O’Sullivan
