The James Fenimore Cooper Society invites paper proposals for its session at the 18th Annual Conference of the American Literature Association, to be held in Boston, May 24-27, 2007.
Papers may deal with any aspect of the life or works of James Fenimore Cooper and should be 20 minutes (6-8 pages) in length. Brief discussion will follow the presentations. Papers must be read in person by the author, except in the case of last-minute emergencies. Presenters need not be members of the James Fenimore Cooper Society, though we certainly hope that they will choose to join. According to ALA guidelines, presenters may give only one paper at the Conference.
Papers presented at the conference will, with their authors' permission, be published in the James Fenimore Cooper Society Miscellaneous Papers series and made available online at the Cooper Society website. Papers may be mildly revised for publication.
Paper proposals should include the paper title, an abstract (approximately 300 words in length), and an indication of whether or not the paper may be published in the Miscellaneous Papers. Generally, proposals for papers intended for the Miscellaneous Papers will receive preference. Proposals should be submitted no later than December 31, 2006 to:
