A panel proposal solicits two additional panelists to participate in the National Women's Studies Association Conference, entitled, "PAST DEBATES, PRESENT POSSIBILITIES, FUTURE FEMINISMS A Women’s and Gender Studies Conference Celebrating 30 Years of NWSA," JUNE 28 - JULY 1 2007, in St. Charles, Illinois. This propsed panel focuses on the effects of priviledging female whiteness in the media. Current papers discuss dictations of white femininity through cinematic representations in the early 20th century and the presentation of ideals of female beauty in "Jet" magazine's "Beauty of the Month" feature, respectively. Please submit 50-100 word abstracts that pertain to the above topics while providing added dialogue to the discussion of media forms as they "code" the intersection of race and femininity. Please submit your abstracts to Nicole Haggard (haggardn@slu.edu) by October 26, 2006 to ensure that we meet the deadline. Thank you.
