The Department of History announces a call for papers for the third annual University of Mississippi Conference on the Civil War. The conference theme is "The Exerience of Combat," and papers are encouraged on all aspects of that theme. Possible topics include (but certainly are not limited to) Union or Confederate soldiers' experiences, the experiences of combat leadership, and the experiences of African American soldiers. Moreover, the theme may be interpreted more broadly, to cover topics as wide-ranging as civilian and homefront response, women as participants or observers, and veterans' memories of battle.
The conference will be held on campus, in Oxford, Mississippi, on May 18 and 19, 2007. Single paper proposals are preferred, with vita. Deadline for submission is 1 January 2007. Contact John Neff for questions or clarifications.
