To all 2006 Western History Association annual conference participants: On Thurs. Oct. 12 at 10:30 a.m., some of us from the University of Wisconsin will hold a roundtable entitled "Teaching Race in the West on the Road: The University of Wisconsin-Madison's Mobile Course 'The Santa Fe Trail: In Search of the Multiracial West.'" We encourage conference partcipants who have taught similar on-the-road, experiential learning courses to bring copies of materials (syllabi, itineraries, etc.) to the session that can be shared with others who may be planning or contemplating such a course in the future. (On Thurs., we will also encourage the electronic exchange of such documents.) We will bring plenty of materials from our own experience of teaching a two-week course that traveled 4500 miles, covered more than a half-dozen states, and interrogated the manifold histories of race, ethnicity, and indigeneity in the West. See you in St. Louis!
