Springfield Technical Community College will host a symposium on the 220th anniversary of Shays’s Rebellion on January 27 and January 28, 2007 on the site of the Rebellion. Editor of _In Debt to Shays: The Bicentennial of an Agrarian Rebellion_, Robert A. Gross from the University of Connecticut is the keynote speaker. Also, Theodore Crackel, editor in chief of The Papers of George Washington, will speak on early War Department Papers.
Call for Papers: Paper topics on any aspect of Shays’s Rebellion are welcome. Final papers should be no longer than ten typed double-spaced pages, and must be readable in 20 minutes. One-page proposals should be sent to John Gately, STCC, One Armory Square, STE 1, P.O. Box 9000, Springfield, MA 01102-9000, or via email to Gately@stcc.edu. Deadline for proposals is October 16, 2006.
Tours of the grounds and the Springfield Armory will be held. Tours to other local historical sites may be arranged for a fee. Breakfast and lunch included. Special rates at the Sheraton Springfield for symposium participants.
