The Conference to be held at Hamburg University in September 2009 shall deal with one of the most important Early modern European cities: Hamburg. It shall focus on different areas of knowledge (theology, philosophy, science, politics and economics, literature, theatre, art, music, book trade) in order to find out about the city's impact on the development of mentalities, ideas and texts in continental Europe and the harbour cities. Exposés should focus on rarely explored historical sources as well as on new approaches in intellectual or regional history.
