Call for Abstracts for Panel Session
Seeking scholars to be part of a panel for the next International Convention of Asian Scholars (ICAS) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The broad sub-theme in which the panel will fall under will be Society and Identity. However, the panel session will focus on China’s state-society relationship in the era of socioeconomic transition. The session will aim to understand how state-society relationship has evolved since China implemented its economic liberalisation policies since 1978 and what the shape of this relationship may be in the future.
Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:
The development of Chinese civil society
State power and social forces
Public sphere
Society’s relationship with various levels of government eg. Central, provincial, municipal etc.
State coporatism/state-led society
Responses from various sectors of society to changing nature of the state
