Presentation proposals are now being accepted for Color-Struck: Teaching and Learning about Race in the Academy, a session of the 2007 Pacific Sociological Association meeting in Oakland, CA, March 29th ¡V April 1st 2007. The session organizer seeks presentations from faculty and/or graduate students who are currently teaching or have taught classes in Race and Ethnicity on college campuses or who are currently doing research on Race/Ethnicity in the Academy.
Potential topics could include but are not limited to:
- Everyday experiences of race and racism in college
- The declining (or increasing) significance of race in the academy
- Confronting inter and intra-racial prejudice in the classroom
- Tools for promoting honest discussions about race/ethnicity
- Overcoming color-blind racism in the academy
- Uncovering and dismantling white privilege
- Building anti-racist coalitions between students and faculty
Please send presentation titles and abstracts of 200-250 words via mail or e-mail (e-mail is greatly preferred) by November 3rd 2006 to Michael Barnes at the addresses below. Make sure to include home department and institutional affiliation with your proposal.
