In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Madres of Plaza de Mayo, the premier human rights organization in Latin America, The MBIDE has arranged for a visit to the US by The MPM, headed by the Madres' President, Ms. Hebe de Bonafini and the Executive Director of the University of the Madres, Mr. Sergio Shocklender. The visit has been scheduled for January 20-30, 2007. If you're interested in scheduling an appearance by the Madres at your school, please let me know just as soon as you can. As part of the Madres' appearance, we will need the assistance of volunteers to help organize different events on campus. The Madres desperately need to raise funds to insure the continuation of their struggle for human rights and social justice during this time of change throughout the continent. We need volunteers to establish organizing committees to schedule and coordinate all the activities on campus. It is important that the academic and the general public be made aware of the issues, the history and the philosophy of the Madres and that in that context we help to insure the survival of the organization and its many projects. For more information and to schedule a visit by the Madres, please contact me at Hune@MartinBuberInstitute.org, and/or call 914-833-7787. Soon we will begin posting updates on our web page (www.culture-and-ecology.com) as well as on the Madres of Plaza de Mayo web site (www.madres.org). (I will post this announcement again at a later date)
Thank you all for your support
