GENDER, SEXUALITY AND THE LAW SYMPOSIUM
CALL FOR PAPERS
Background
St. Thomas Chapter for the Florida Association of Women Lawyers is requesting the submission of papers regarding all aspects of Gender and Sexuality as they relate to the law. The organizing board will evaluate all of the papers, and will award one person with the opportunity to get published in the FAWL Journal and with a two-hundred dollar stipend.
Topics
We particularly encourage papers exploring the following topics:
• Sexuality and Health Issues: access to medicines
and health care
• Sexuality and Orientation: lesbian and gay issues,
queer activism, transgender movements and
transsexual movements
• Sexuality and Power: legal issues/cases,
legislation/policy making
• Sexuality and Work: discrimination, sexuality, and
the workplace
Proposal
You are invited to submit a proposal for a 10 minute power point presentation on any aspect of the conference theme or related topics. Panels and poster presentations also will be considered. The proposal (one page maximum) must include: name(s), personal title(s), institutional affiliation(s), paper title, abstract (100 word maximum), biographical details of presenter(s) (100 word maximum), and contact details. Deadline for submissions is October 15th, 2006.
Timeline
Proposals Due.......................... October 15th, 2006
Notification of Acceptance............. October 19th, 2006
Papers Due............................. October 31st, 2007
Conference............................. November 8th, 2007
Logistics
The Conference will be open to the public. Presenter will be assessed a cost of $20. Conference participants will be responsible for all of their own expenses, including, but not limited to, air and local travel, accommodation, meals, and insurance. A list of hotels located near the University is available upon request. Breakfast will be provided, additionally, the campus cafeterias are available. Parking is available on campus at no cost. The Conference will be conducted in English.
Publication
Organizing Committee will review conference papers and may consider them for publication.
