The Culture and Customs series (on Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Europe) are well established and very good sellers for us. These series are targeted to high school students, community college students, undergraduates, and the general public and are marketed to libraries across the United States.
There is a series format, with an introduction to the country (land, people, brief history) and narrative chapters on religion, social customs, literature and media, cuisine, gender, film, performing arts, and art and architecture. The length is 70,000 words. The emphasis is on the contemporary. Manuscript deadline: 12 to 18 months.
Authors must have Ph.D. and/or be independent scholars who are subject specialists and proven producers of pertinent publications. Co-authoring is fine. Replies only to qualified candidates.
