Give teachers an historic perspective
on the current immigration debate
Save Ellis Island is proud to offer Teachers’ Day Professional Development Workshops on Ellis Island around the theme of Immigration
These workshops integrate Language Arts and Social Studies while immersing teachers in one of the region’s major historic sites.
Teachers explore how writing activities, picture prompts, and critical thinking activities based around immigration can work with curriculum and help prepare students for NCLB standardized tests.
Participants receive a packet of primary sources including historic photographs, reproduced documents and suggested lesson plans.
You can tailor the workshop by choosing from a variety of hands-on activities including exploration of primary sources such as oral histories, photographs, and documents. All workshops include a tour of the buildings on Ellis Island’s South Side which are closed to the public, and lunch.
Certificates for completed professional development hours available.
