The theme of next year’s WSCA convention is “Forging Social Justice Through Our Work.” In keeping with this theme, this is a call for participants for a panel that seeks to explore how play (playfulness, the ludic) might serve as a modality for the promotion of social justice. The concept of play has traditionally been accorded a degraded or subsidiary status in western culture, most often described as a realm of experience set off from the realm of “real life” or “serious” action. This panel invites presentations of grounded research from multiple perspectives that challenge traditional dualistic play paradigms. Those interested in presenting, as well as those who would be willing to serve as a chair and/or respondent, should contact me directly by August 25th, 2006.
