The 54th Annual Conference of the Rocky Mountain
Council for Latin American Studies will be held in Santa Fe, NM, Wednesday, January 24-Saturday, January 27, 2007. The RMCLAS Annual Conference provides an opportunity for scholars and graduate students to share original research on Latin America. The program committee is now accepting panel and paper proposals on general topics in Latin America. Please provide us with the paper title and a short abstract (not to exceed one-page, single-spaced).
In addition, we will hold 2 special topics sessions:
1) Grand Canyon Session: Deep Thoughts on Latin America - We encourage proposals on new directions in Latin American Studies and History. This session will feature on think pieces rather than the usual presentations based on archival
research.
2) NEW! - RMCLAS on the Little Screen - Members who have appeared on television are invited to send copies or clips of their appearances.
The deadline for program applications is December 1, 2006.
LODGING
The El Dorado Hotel & Spa in Santa Fe will be hosting the event. Room rates and lodging information can be obtained by calling the hotel at (800)-955-4455. Please let them know you are with the RMCLAS conference.
MEMBERSHIP DUES
Membership is required for participation in the annual conference and eligibility in the annual prize competition. Dues for 2007 membership can be paid directly to Ray Sadler, Department of History, New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, NM, 88003.
Dues are as follows:
$25 - Regular Membership
$10 - Student Membership
$15 - Retired Faculty Membership
$250 - Life Membership
PRIZE NOMINATIONS
Each year, RMCLAS offers prizes to its members for publications, teaching, and service. All members are eligible for RMCLAS prizes and nominations can be made to the chairperson of each prize committee. Nominees must request that their publisher send three copies of their book to the committee chair. More information on prize committees and chairpersons will follow in the coming
months.
