Call for Papers (working title) Women, Wellness and the Media, an edited volume by Margaret Wiley
How do the media frame our ideas about womens health? What is healthy and what is diseased is often determined by the tangled discourses of religion, aesthetics, consumer capitalism and scientific research. This volume will interrogate the way these various discourses impact perception of sickness and health in women. I am looking for critical papers including, but no limited to, the following:
Women and AIDS
LGBT health care issues
Plastic surgery
Minority female health care
Pregnancy
Aging Women
Bitch Magazine
RU-486
Health and adolescent girls
One page abstracts of these or any other pertinent topics regarding women, wellness and the media are due Aug 15, 2006. Completed papers will be due Jan. 10, 2007.
