Paper or panel proposals for the Western Jewish Studies Association Conference to be held at Portland State University, Portland, Oregon on March 18-19, 2007 are being sought. Any topic within the field of Jewish Studies is welcome. Subjects of particular interest include but are not limited to:
Jewish history, sociology, and religious and cultural practices in the American and Canadian West
Panels formed around multiple readings of a single text
Jewish dimensions of neoconservatism
Jewish museums and community archives in the U.S. and Canada
Forty years on: the Six Day War in history and culture
Translation and Jewish literatures
Biography and autobiography
Jewish Studies pedagogy
Graduate student proposals will be considered and several travel stipends are available for graduate students whose proposals are accepted. Submit paper proposals that are no longer than 1 double-spaced page along with a short CV of one page which includes e-mail and regular mailing addresses. A one page overview of panels should be sent by the panel organizer and include paper titles, academic affiliation, and contact information for presenters and panel chairperson. Each presenter of the panel must submit his or her paper proposal separately, but indicate that it is part of a panel proposal. Proposals are due November 1 and should be sent to:
