WCBS - DALLAS 2006 (October 19-21)
CALL FOR PAPERS - LAST REMINDER!!!
Western Conference on British Studies (WCBS) Annual Meeting
The Western Conference on British Studies (WCBS) will hold its 2006 annual meeting in Dallas, Texas (at the historic Adolphus Hotel in the downtown Museum District), on October 19-21, 2006. The WCBS (an affiliate of the NACBS, the main organization for British Studies in North America) seeks participation by scholars in all areas of British Studies.
We solicit proposals for panels on England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, and the British Empire broadly defined. Our interests range from the medieval to the modern, and we welcome participation by historians, literary critics, economists, sociologists, art historians, and scholars in other allied disciplines. We invite panel proposals treating selected themes, methodology and pedagogy, as well as round table discussion of topical work. North American scholars, international scholars, and graduate students are all encouraged to submit proposals to the program chair of the WCBS. Proposals for entire panels on a given theme will be given priority, although individual paper proposals will also be considered if several of them can be assembled to create a viable panel. No participant will be permitted to take part in more than one session, and no more than one proposal will be considered from each applicant. The WCBS is committed to the principles of ensuring the broadest possible participation of scholars of all facets of British studies.
Proposals should include four copies of each of the following: a list containing paper titles, names and contact information for each panelist; a statement of the overall purpose and goals of the panel; a 200-300 word abstract for each paper to be read; and a one or two page C.V. for all participants. For further information about the WCBS, go to: http://www.wcbs.org.
To guarantee consideration, all proposals must be received by the WCBS Program Committee by Friday, June 16th, 2006. We would prefer not to accept proposals via e-mail or fax. Please mail four hard copies of your proposals to:
