The British Museum Diploma in Asian Art aims to give students a broad understanding in Asian art setting the art in a historical, religious and cultural context. The teaching is object-based, a combination of lectures from leading experts and the guidance of the museum curators and tutors. Tutors for each culture provide continuity and support in writing essays. In addition the course provides a museum studies dimension. The students have an unprecedented opportunity to handle the museum's collections and cd images of the museum's collection for revision.
The course is validated by the Royal Holloway, University of London. The classes are held at the British Museum. Students obtain a Postgraduate certificate with the successful completion of one module and a Postgraduate Diploma with the successful completion of 3 modules. The modules are the following:
The Arts of India (September - December 2006)
The Arts of China (January - March 2007)
The Arts of Japan & Korea or the Arts of the Islamic world
(April - July 2007)
