An interdisciplinary conference examining the broad theme "Trajectories of Freedom: Caribbean Societies - Past and Present" will take place on the campus of The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Barbados, from Thursday May 23 - Saturday, May 25, 2007. The conference organizers are keen to encourage submissions from the widest possible range of disciplinary and inter-disciplinary perspectives. Joint submissions across disciplines and submissions from graduate students are welcome.
In making their submissions, prospective participants are asked to consider, but need not limit themselves to the following sub themes: Language and Freedom; Independence and Political Freedom in the 21st century; Education and Equality of Opportunity; Freeing the Imagination: the Arts; Thinking Freedom/Freedom Thinkers; Race and Representation; Gendered Identities; Ethnicity and Caribbean Identities; the Natural World.
The deadline for submission of abstracts is October 1, 2006.
The review process will be completed by December 1, 2006.
Papers selected for the conference must be submitted in both hard copy and electronic format no later than April 15, 2007.
The registration fee per person, payable by April 15, 2007, is as follows:
Members of UWI - US$100.00
Graduate Students - US$50.00
All Others - US$150.00
The late registration fee (payable after April 15 2007) is an additional US$50.00.
