The Massachusetts Historical Review has begun its eighth successful year and is reaching a growing audience. Recently, the journal received a certificate of commendation from the American Association for State and Local History. Past issues are available, along with a select group of other fine journals, online at the History Cooperative and can be viewed free at www.masshist.org, which should help create an unusually large readership for MHR contributors.
We are seeking articles on any aspect of the history of the Commonwealth, its place in the region and nation, or the lives of its citizens, especially the legacies of the forgotten. Our audience includes professional historians from around the country and many general readers with a passion for Massachusetts history. We have been fortunate in attracting a wide spectrum of authors, from talented graduate students to nationally acclaimed writers like David McCullough and Laurel Thatcher Ulrich. We are looking for the newest scholarship and the best writing, things our readers have come to expect.
This fall, we will be offering essays on Elizabeth Palmer Peabody, Jewish immigrants to Cambridge during and after World War II, a new view of poor relief in colonial Boston, a most unusual "kidnapping" of a slave in Boston, and more. If your research and writing takes you into the terrain of Massachusetts history, I hope you will think of publishing with us. Contact me at any time, by phone or e-mail, and I will be happy to speak with you about publication possibilities.
Sincerely
