At this point in history, education is a human horizon that needs radical redefinition. Even when spheres such as those of pedagogy, school management and the curriculum remain key aspects of human learning, education must be redefined by the same radical urgency with which we constantly need to address politics, economics, art and culture. This course of study emerges from such considerations. Here, the notion of education is not simply regarded or hailed as a process of learning. Rather, this course will re-propose education as a fulfilment of the formative imperatives by which we, as social and political beings, are empowered to reaffirm the plight for liberty, equality and community. We propose to do this in a time when human rights, social justice and solidarity are eclipsed by instrumental reason. We also do this in the light of the liberal and progressive failure to counter the conservative reification of human learning.
