The East Side Institute for Group and Short Term Psychotherapy invites you to a presentation and conversation with Elizabeth Ann Danto, author of the award-winning, Freud's Free Clinics, Psychoanalysis & Social Justice, 1918-1938 (Columbia University Press, 2005) and Bette Braun, the Institute’s Director of Training.
Dr. Danto’s multimedia presentation (which she has made to psychoanalytic institutes around the world) reveals some of the surprising discoveries she made about the early years of the psychoanalytic movement in Weimar Germany and “Red Vienna.”
Emerging from her research is the untold history of Freud and the early psychoanalysts –
Wilhelm Reich, Erik Erikson, Karen Horney, Erich Fromm and Helene Deutsch. As leaders of a radical project to democratize society, they embraced psychoanalysis as a method for easing human suffering and achieving social justice.
