This symposium is being called in order to compare lines of research, emerging from the arts and social sciences, into the phenomenon of the Whole Earth Catalog, first published 1968. The most ambitious meeting on the topic so far organized, it includes papers by:

• Linda Dalrymple Henderson, David Bruton, Jr.
Centennial Professor in Art History, University of Texas at Austin
• Andrew Kirk, Director of the History Department, University of Nevada at Las Vegas
• Caroline Maniaque, Associate Professor in History of Architecture at Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'architecture et de Paysage de Lille
• Simon Sadler, Associate Professor of Architectural and Urban History, University of California at Davis
• Fred Turner, Assistant Professor in Department of Communication, Stanford University
