The Verbal and the Visual in Nineteenth-Century Culture conference is jointly organised by Birkbeck's Centre for Nineteenth-Century Studies and the Institute of English Studies, Senate House, University of London. It will take place on 23-24 June 2006 at the Institute of English Studies.
Keynote speakers are: Kate Flint (Rutgers), Michael Hatt (Yale), Brian Maidment (Salford), Lynda Nead (Birkbeck), and Lindsay Smith (Sussex).
The event includes workshops led by Isobel Armstrong(Birkbeck, University of London), Martin Myrone (Tate Britain), Julia Thomas and Tim Killick (University of Wales at Cardiff) and Jim Mussell and Suzanne Paylor (Birkbeck, University of London).
