AUGUST & MARY SOBOTKA INTERNSHIP
HELENA, MONTANA
The Montana Historical Society is seeking a summer intern who will work on a new initiative – the African-American Heritage Resources in Montana project. This grant-funded project will allow the Society to assemble all existing resources on the state’s African American history held by the Montana Historical Society in a single database for public access.
Primary duties of the Project Intern will include transferring information from surveys to the database; editing catalog abstracts; and participating in other supporting tasks as needed.
We are seeking an individual with broad knowledge of Montana and/or Western history and historical research techniques who is currently enrolled in a college history or museum studies program. The successful applicant must have the ability to work effectively with the Project Director, Project Historian, other Society staff, and the public. The successful candidate will be a collegial, well-organized and focused individual. Computer skills are necessary.
The Project Intern will work full time for 12 weeks. The wage is $10.00/hour. The position runs May 15 through August 15, 2006, with some flexibility for the academic calendar. The position reports to the Project Historian, and will be housed in the Museum Office.
Applications must include a letter outlining the candidate’s interest in this position and career goals, a current resume, and letters of recommendation from two professionals who can attest to your work skills.
