During the Middle Ages the Iberian Peninsula saw how the three religions of Christianity, Islam and Judaism came to flourish, and with them the three learned languages of Latin, Arabic and Hebrew, as well as a variety of Romance vernaculars, including Galician-Portuguese, Leonese, Castilian, Aragonese and Catalan. Because of this complexity, all too often scholars specializing in one of these fields run the risk of losing sight of the big picture. In order to promote interdisciplinary approaches and provide a platform for joint research, we are organising the ‘First Colloquium on the Cultures of Christian and Islamic Iberia’. Keynote speakers will include Prof. Richard Hitchcock (Exeter) and Prof. John V. Tolan (Nantes). The deadline for paper offers and registration is 31 May 2006. The Colloquium will be held at the University of Exeter (Streatham Campus) on 4-5 September 2006. For travel directions, please visit: http://www.ex.ac.uk/about/directions.shtml
