"Remaking Boston: The City and Environmental Change Over the Centuries"
The Massachusetts Historical Society will hold a conference on the environmental history of Boston. "Remaking Boston: The City and Environmental Change Over the Centuries" will take place at the Society 4-6 May 2006. Professor Brian Donahue of Brandeis University, the author of The Great Meadow: Farming the Land in Colonial Concord, will deliver the principal address on Thursday evening, 4 May 2006. On Friday and Saturday, 5-6 May 2006, attention will turn to five panels. At each of these sessions, authors and assigned commentators will discuss two or three pre-circulated papers before we open the floor to general discussion. Sessions will consider climate and weather, Boston Harbor, the countryside and the city, rivers and water, and land use.
