Information letter

The Executive Committee of the European Association for Jewish Studies is glad to announce that in the frames of the VIIIth congress of the EAJS (23-27, 2006, Moscow) the book advertising and book exhibition will take place.

More than 300 participants have already given their confirmation to take part in the work of the congress.

We invite the publishers in Jewish Studies to take part in the exhibition and display a selection of relevant books, journals and catalogues and promote the publishing materials during the congress.

CONDITIONS AND COSTS FOR PARTICIPATION

A MANNED STAND for 5 days - $500 (includes: a demonstration table (1,5m x 1,0m) and chairs, registration fee for one person).
Registration fees:
Before April 1, 2006: for EAJS members: $75 for non-members: $180
After: for EAJS members: $100 for non-members: $220

If for budget reasons the publishers are unable to send someone to man a stand, the “UNMANNED” DISPLAY is possible with the help of our volunteers – $250

In the case of “unmanned” display please send a collection of books beforehand to avoid post-delivery problems.

The publishers are also invited to present information about their most relevant editions in the CONGRESS PROGRAMME BOOK (size ca. 16cm x 19 sm).

Format specifications for advertisements: full page – $200, half page – $100.

PDF format is preferred. Files should be set-up and saved for print as black and white ads. Under options for the PDF's resolution, the setting should be 300dpi for black and white images and 1200dpi for monochrome images. Imbed all fonts and subset fonts below 100%. Quark 5 files (or less) are fine as long as they include photos, art, and screen and printer fonts with the file. All photos must be 300dpi tiffs at size in their ad.

Please note, that leaflets, price-lists, catalogues and flyers can be insert into participants’ bags.

Payment for advertising and exhibition, and registration fees is to be sent to the EAJS Secretariat at Yarnton before June 1. When you transfer money to the EAJS bank account please do not forget to mention what your payment is for (registration fee, manned or “unmanned” stand):

ACCOMMODATION
The VIII EAJS Congress Committee and Congress Travel Agent offers participants accommodation at the hotel “Cosmos” (4 stars) with a special discount price available for participants who will confirm their booking no later then 35 days before arrival:
Single room with buffet breakfast – 100 USD/room/night
Double room with buffet breakfast – 130 USD/room/night

The Cosmos Hotel provides a wide variety of facilities and services. In order to secure you booking a deposit of the first night charge should be paid on later then 35 days prior to the arrival.

The number of rooms for Congress price is limited. Moreover due to the acute shortage of good and cheap hotels in Moscow the Congress Committee cannot guarantee the accommodation for the participants who do not book and purchase the accommodation before the deadline.

Limited number of rooms will be available in hotels located nearby which provides very modest facilities. Single room with buffet breakfast – about 60 USD/room/night.

RUSSIAN VISA
All foreign citizens should obtain visa to visit Russian Federation. For visa support please contact the Congress Travel Agent.

INSURANCE
Registration fees do not include insurance of any kind. It is strongly recommended that at the time you register for the Congress and book your travel you take out an insurance policy of your choice. The Congress organizers cannot take any responsibility for any participant failing to arrange their own insurance. This insurance is to be purchased in your country of origin. It is also advised to be covered by medical insurance.

KOSHER CATERING
Participants who observe kashrut will be able to order lunchboxes. For payment details please contact the Congress Committee or see our web-site (coming soon).

Average price for the lunch boxes - $10-$20.

The Congress Committee will be glad to provide the participants with addresses of Moscow synagogues, kosher restaurants and kosher food stores, etc.

TOURS
The Congress Travel Agent offers wide variety of tour for Congress participants, including a post-Congress four-day tour to St. Petersburg, City Sighting Tours by your choice as well as Day Tours for Accompanying Person.
