"Crossroads of Empire: Imperial Rivalry at Old Fort Niagara"
NEH Landmarks of American History and Culture Workshop for School
Teachers
Fort Niagara served as the lynchpin for control of the Great Lakes, and
was
fought over by France, Great Britain, the United States, and the
Iroquois
Great League of Peace between first contact and the War of 1812. Two
one-week seminars (July 10-14 and 24-28) designed for K-12 teachers
will
investigate this crucial early American site and the interaction of
cultures
that took place there. Lectures from leading scholars, hands-on
demonstrations at the Fort, and curriculum development sessions are
designed
to increase participant knowledge and improve classroom instruction.
All K-12 teachers, administrators, and personnel (public, private,
parochial, and home school) are eligible to attend. A stipend and
travel
allowance are provided to cover most expenses. For information and
application instructions, go to:
http://www.niagara.edu/crossroads
Application deadline is March 15, 2006.
