American Councils is pleased to announce a new opportunity for summer study in Moscow, Russia. A five-week program focusing on area studies, Contemporary Russia will offer courses in Russian economics, politics, and culture; all content-based classes will be taught in English by faculty of the State University: Moscow Higher School of Economics, one of Russia's most prestigious centers for the study of social sciences. Program participants will also receive six hours per week of elementary Russian language instruction. (Students with prior training in Russian who wish to join the program will be provided instruction at the appropriate level; we will be able to accommodate students of all proficiency levels.) A full-time U.S. resident director will oversee the program, assist participants with academic and personal matters, and serve as a liaison between university faculty, administrators, host families and participants.
Other program features include room and board with Russian families; weekly cultural excursions; Russian peer tutors; eight semester-hours of academic credit through Bryn Mawr College; and pre-departure orientation in Washington, DC. Program fees include round-trip international travel from Washington, DC to Moscow, room and board, international health insurance, and Russian visas.
