2006 Film & History Conference on
THE DOCUMENTARY TRADITION
8-12 November, 2006
Dolce Conference Center-Dallas, Texas
www.filmandhistory.org
AREA: Documentary vs. Feature Interpretations
DEADLINE: July 20, 2006
The objective of a documentary differs greatly from that of a feature film intended for a cinema audience. We are soliciting proposals that select documentaries and feature films that permit a scholarly assessment of the purposes of both and of how well they achieve their historical and/or mass audience objectives.
A presenter can choose: a single documentary and feature film, exploring in depth the rationale of each. [The History Channel’s History vs. Hollywood series reflects one aspect of such an approach.]; or several documentaries and one or more feature films; or documentaries and feature films from more than one country.
It is likely that there will be three or more panels within the scope of Documentary vs. Feature Presentations. Our intention is to permit wide latitude for potential presenters who seek innovative approaches to this broad-ranging subject.
