Family history experts needed to write reference volumes for high school students and the general public.
Series: Family Life through History volumes needed:
World volumes (Early Modern, 19th c, 20th c)
135,000 words each; manuscript deadline of 12-18 months from contract signing
The focus will be the role of the family and typical family life during a specific time period in history and will be divided into chapters by women (mothers), men (fathers), children, extended family (grandparents, aunts/uncles, cousins, in-laws, etc.) and "other" families (convent/monasteries, orphanages, communes). Narrative chapters will define the roles of all family members and will include information on maintaining the household, work, entertainment, meal planning/dining, shelter, death/dying, ceremonies (weddings, birthdays, etc.), holidays, customs and rites of passage, parenting, education, widowhood, divorce, domestic violence, child abuse and neglect. Authors will include information on nuclear families, single parent families, foster families, adoptive families, gay and lesbian families, stepfamilies, urban/ rural/ suburban families, and ethnic and minority families where appropriate.
Authors will be responsible for preparing and including a reference section containing sources for further information, a timeline of historic events, and a subject index to be prepared at the page-proof stage of production.
Authors must have Ph.D. and/or be independent scholars who are subject specialists and proven producers of pertinent publications. Co-authoring is fine. Replies only to qualified candidates.
