The editor of the forthcoming anthology “Bureaucratic Elites of the Modern Middle East” invites relevant chapter proposals which contribute scholarship the ideological and institutional analysis of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, and the changing dynamics of bureaucratic cultures, in the Middle East. The following successor states of the Ottoman Empire are of particular interest: Lebanon, Palestine-Israel, Syria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Turkey, Kuwait and Yemen. This study is concerned with the transitional periods that these states went through during the nation-building processes, as opposed to being a study of Ottoman legacy per se. Essays are expected to concentrate on the role played by bureaucrats, and especially diplomats, in the modernization and the transformation of political structures/cultures of the above mentioned states. For further information and/or submission of chapter proposals please contact with Gul Inanc via gul.barkay@emu.edu.tr ,with an abstract of 200 words and a cv.
