Articles are invited for an anthology of writings on the Indian Commercial Cinema tentatively titled “Bollywood, Nation, and Diaspora: Indian Cinema in the Age of Globalization.” Topics include national identity and its re-configuration, re-positioning of religious and secular authority, changes in the depiction of sexuality etc. Writers should establish their readings of particular texts solidly against the changing political backdrop as well as on an understanding of the historical development of Bollywood film itself. Please send a 1,000 word abstract with your current C.V. to raj-pan@uiuc.edu, before March 15, 2006. The abstract should be an accurate representation of your paper, as it would be included in the final book proposal to the publisher. The deadline for submitting complete articles (30,000 – 50,000 words) will be in early Fall 2006. Decision regarding selection will be made known in April, and the selected writers will be informed of publication details in summer.
